Summer Reads

For the summer I have decided to follow a different format - I will post most of the books we read (as best as I can record) for the months of June-August in categories. There will be many repeats to be sure as I am not going to go through and see if we already recorded that book and we often read the same book over and over again during the summer. To me the summer is a time to share some of my absolute favorites, the books I feel are must reads and then the rest gets filled in by the kids choices from our current selection and the library.

Reality Check - I don't post half of what we read. I am so out of a normal rhythm in the summer and Rhiannon reads on average a chapter book a day - she has been into the Great American Classics and the American Girl series this summer. Regular posting to resume in September. But there still are some good finds in the list.

  1. Ooooooooo! *rubbing hands gleefully* Book lists! Yippee!

Sadly, as much as I love our new state, and the whole iBistro system was developed right here in Huntsville - our library system won't let you put books on hold. ACK. Nope. The best I can do now is to look them up, and let the system print me a list so I can go find 'em on my own. *sigh* That's going to take some creative seeking on my part, or separate trips - one w/ the boys and one w/o.

  2. We love the Moncure books in our house. I have only been able to find them at the library, though. Do you happen to know where we could maybe find a set???

  3. Alibris.com often has individual books for resale. To purchase a set is quite expensive - around 20 a book because they only sell them library bound. I have however had good luck finding the original the older My "a" book series rather than the Myh "a" soundbox book series for between 2-5 a book on www.alibris.com and www.half.com

  4. Somewhere along the way I ended up with the soundbox complete set including cards. MB enjoyed them and now K cannot get enough of them, she always seems to have one in her hand.

I love your booklist. I never can do that. The best I always seem to be able to do is scrape the pile off the coffee and dining room table and then type in what we have read.

Do you plan the novel read alouds, or do you let your children choose them?
